How to Download & Save Your Wedding Photos
Your wedding photos are meant to be enjoyed for years—not just viewed online! ❤️
Downloading your gallery for the first time can feel a little confusing, especially when your photos arrive as LINK. Don't worry! I've created this simple guide to walk you through the process from start to finish.
My biggest recommendation: Download your gallery using a computer, and then save a copy of your photos to an external hard drive or other backup location.
That way, you aren't relying on your online gallery or your computer alone to keep your memories safe.
Before You Begin
For larger wedding galleries, I recommend having:
- 💻 A laptop or desktop computer
- 💾 An external hard drive or flash drive
- 📁 A little extra storage space on your computer
- ⏰ A reminder on your calendar to download and back up your photos before your gallery expires
Tips For Favorite Images: Open Your Gallery & Choose Your Favorite Photos
Start by opening the link to your online gallery.
You can browse through all of your images and favorite the photos you'd like to download.
To favorite a photo:
- Open your gallery.
- Click the heart ❤️ on the images you want to save.
- You can continue browsing and adding favorites as you go.
If you'd like to download the entire gallery, you can skip favoriting individual photos and choose the appropriate download option instead.
Step 1: Request Your Download
Once you're ready to download:
- Look for the Download icon in the upper-right corner of your gallery.
- Click Download.
- Choose what you'd like to download—such as your favorites or a particular folder scenes or Entire Gallery: which could be divided as Folder Parts (depending how large the Gallery is it can be 1 up to 10 Folder Parts.)
- Click to request your download.
Option One - Instant Download From Original Email

Download First Folder or Folders

Option Two - Download From Gallery, Look Top Right

Step 2: Check Your Email
Once your download is ready, you'll receive an email with a link to download your photos.
Open the email and click the Download button.
Your computer will begin downloading the files.
Important: You may not immediately see your photos. That's completely normal!
- Your gallery will usually download as a ZIP file.
Let it Download- Download Icon located On the right corner of Web Browser
Step 3: Find Your Downloaded ZIP File
This is the step where many people get stuck!
When you click Download, your computer will normally save the file in your Downloads folder.
On a Windows computer:
Open File Explorer.
Click Downloads on the left side.
Look for the ZIP file you just downloaded.
It may have a name related to your gallery or wedding.
Tip: Still Can't find it?
Try opening your browser's recent downloads. (Visuals Below)
In most browsers, you can also press:
Ctrl + J
- This will show you your recent downloads and where the file was saved.
Once it's Done Downloading - Click On Recent Download
Step 4: Extract the ZIP File
Your photos are inside the ZIP file, but they aren't visible as individual photos yet.
To open the ZIP file:
- Find the downloaded ZIP file.
- Right-click the file.
- Choose Extract All.
- Choose where you'd like the folder to be saved. (download or desktop)
- Click Extract.
Your computer will create a new folder containing your wedding photos.
Tip: Don't see your photos yet?
Look for the new folder created after you extracted the ZIP file.
- That's where your actual photo files will be.

Extract Folder or Folder

Click Extract

Step 5: Open Your Wedding Photo Folder
Now open the folder that was created when you extracted your ZIP file.
🎉 There they are!
You should now be able to see your individual JPG images and open them just like any other photo on your computer.
At this point, I recommend creating one main folder for your wedding.
For example:
Smith Wedding – JCo Weddings
Inside that folder, you can organize your images however you'd like.
You Can Go ahead and Delete the Zip File Folders, since it serves no purpose now

Rename Extracted Folder As the Main

Main Folder Renamed

Step 6: Keep Your Photos Organized
You don't have to organize your photos perfectly, but I recommend keeping everything related to your wedding together.
You might create folders such as:
Smith Wedding – JCo Weddings
→ Wedding Photos - High Res
→ Wedding Photos - Web Size
→ Wedding Photos - Favorites -To Print
→ Cell Phone Photos
→ Wedding Video
→ Photo Booth Photos
You can also simply keep everything in one folder if that's easier for you.
The most important thing is that you know where your files are.
If Images are a bit Wacky when you open your photos, You can Sort them!

Move Any Part Folders or Related Wedding Photos into Main Folder

Move Images into One Folder, Indicate High Res or Social

Click Sort

Organize in chronological order

Step 7: Back Up Your Photos to a Hard Drive
This is the step I really don't want you to skip! ❤️
Once you've downloaded and extracted your wedding photos, copy the entire wedding folder onto an external hard drive or flash drive.
If you purchased or already have a large-capacity flash drive, you can also use it to store:
- Your professional wedding photos
- Wedding videos
- Cell phone photos
- Other important wedding memories
Having everything together makes it much easier to find years from now.
My recommendation:
Try to have your wedding photos stored in at least two places.
For example:
Computer + External Hard Drive
Even better:
Computer + External Hard Drive + Cloud Backup
That way, if something happens to one copy, you have another.

Drag and Drop to Hard Drive

Plug in Hardive or Flas Drive into the Computer and Copy Folder onto the chosen Flash Drive or Hard Drive
Congrats! .... You Now Have one copy on the computer and One on the Hard Drive!
What If I Don’t Have a Computer?
If you don’t have access to a computer, you can also download your photos directly to your phone or tablet. Just keep in mind that large wedding galleries may take longer to download and can use a significant amount of storage on your device.
For the easiest way to download and organize a large wedding gallery, I recommend using a computer whenever possible and then saving a backup to an external hard drive or flash drive. Or use a cloud space to see the photos from your phone.

Your Photos Are Worth Protecting ❤️
Your wedding gallery contains memories you'll hopefully look back on for decades.
Once you've downloaded your images, don't leave the only copy sitting in your Downloads folder.
Take a few extra minutes to organize your photos and copy them to a hard drive. It's a small step that can give you much more peace of mind knowing your memories are safely stored.

FAQ
How long will the download take?
It depends on your internet speed and which files you’re downloading:
Online Gallery (Web-Size): Typically takes 5–30 minutes depending on the number of images (usually 400–1,200 for weddings).
Tips to speed it up:
- Use a computer with strong Wi-Fi or a wired connection.
- Avoid downloading on mobile unless doing a few images at a time.
- Plug in your device so it doesn’t sleep mid-download.
Upload time calculator is a free online tool to calculate how much time it will take to download/upload/transfer a file based on bandwidth/Upload speed.
Can I save my wedding videos and phone photos on the same hard drive?
Absolutely! If your drive has enough storage, I actually recommend keeping your wedding memories together.
You could create folders for:
- 📷 Professional Wedding Photos
- 🎥 Wedding Videos
- 📱 Cell Phone Photos & Videos
- 💌 Other Wedding Memories
That way, everything is in one place and easy to find.
How much storage do I need to save my wedding photos?
Most wedding galleries range between 10–40 GB depending on how many high-resolution files are delivered. To be safe, I recommend having at least 64 GB of free space dedicated for your gallery—more if you plan to keep backups of engagement or bridal sessions too.
Should I save my photos to a hard drive?
Yes! I highly recommend it.
Your online gallery should not be your only copy of your wedding photos. After downloading your gallery, copy the entire wedding folder to an external hard drive or flash drive.
Do I need a computer to download my wedding photos?
No. You can download your photos to a phone or tablet, but for a large wedding gallery, I strongly recommend using a computer. It makes downloading, organizing, and backing up your photos much easier.
Where should I save my wedding photos?
I recommend creating a dedicated folder on your computer, such as:
Smith Wedding – JCo Weddings
Then save your downloaded and extracted photos inside that folder.
What If I Get Stuck?
You're not alone! Downloading a large gallery can be confusing the first time.
The most common issue is this:
"I downloaded my photos, but I can't find them!"
Check your computer's Downloads folder.
"I found the file, but I don't see any photos!"
Look for the ZIP file and choose Extract All.
"I extracted the file, but where are my photos?"
Open the new folder created after extraction.
"The download won't work."
Make sure you have enough available storage on your computer and that your internet connection is stable. If you're still having trouble, reach out to me and I'll help you troubleshoot.
Where do my photos go after I click "Download"?
On a computer, your downloaded gallery will usually be placed in your Downloads folder. Your photos may arrive as a ZIP file, so you'll need to extract the ZIP file before you can view the individual images.
Why don't I see my photos after downloading them?
Don't worry, you probably haven't lost them! 😊 Your gallery is typically downloaded as a ZIP file. Find the ZIP file in your Downloads folder, right-click it, and select Extract All. A new folder containing your photos will then be created.
What is a ZIP file?
A ZIP file is simply a folder that has been compressed so that many files, sometimes hundreds or thousands of photos, can be downloaded together more efficiently.
You aren't downloading one giant photo. Your photos are inside the ZIP file.
What kind of hard drive should I buy?
Choose an external hard drive with a good reputation for durability and speed. A few client-friendly options:
- WD My Passport (1TB or more) – Reliable and compact
- LaCie Rugged – Great for travel or on-the-go use
- Samsung T7 SSD – Fast, small, and long-lasting
Aim for 1TB or more if you're saving multiple sessions, videos, or future photo projects.
Can I use a USB drive instead?
You can, but USB drives aren’t as stable long-term and are easier to lose. They are easier to travel with and quick transfer to another device. If you do use one, treat it as a secondary backup, not your only copy.
Can I store my photos on my phone or iPad?
It’s okay for casual viewing, but not recommended as your main storage. Phones and tablets often compress files or auto-delete data to save space. Use them for access, not archiving.
What’s the difference between “Download All” and selecting individual images?
“Download All” will zip everything into a single folder or a few single files, which can take time and storage. Choosing individual images lets you pick your favorites or smaller sections of your gallery, especially useful if you're short on space.
Will I lose quality if I screenshot or save from social media?
Yes! Screenshots and social media saves are heavily compressed. Always download directly from the gallery to keep full quality for printing or archiving.
What file format are my images in?
All images are delivered in .JPG (JPEG) format, which is perfect for printing, sharing, and storing. These files are universal and easy to open on any device without special software.
How do I organize the wedding files once downloaded?
Create clearly labeled folders like:
📂 Wedding Photos
└ 📁 Ceremony
└ 📁 Reception
└ 📁 Favorites
└ 📁 High-Res for Print
└ 📁 Web for Sharing
Organizing now saves you a ton of time later, especially when it comes to printing or sharing.
What if I accidentally download the gallery twice?
That's okay! You can simply delete the duplicate download after you've confirmed that you have one complete, working copy of your photos.
Can I download individual photos instead of the entire gallery?
Yes, depending on the download options available in your gallery. You can select individual images, favorites, or folders when requesting your download.
What if my download is taking a long time?
Large wedding galleries contain a lot of high-resolution files, so they can take some time to prepare and download. A strong internet connection and a computer are recommended for larger galleries.
Try to avoid closing your browser or putting your computer to sleep while a large download is in progress.
What if I can't find the email with my download link?
First, check your spam, junk, promotions, or other filtered folders.
You can also search your email for JCo Weddings.
Still can't find it? Reach out to me and I'll help you figure it out.
How long will my online gallery be available?
Your gallery is available for the period specified with your gallery delivery. Portraits are usually one month and weddings 3 months. Please don't wait until the last minute to download your photos.
I recommend putting a reminder on your calendar as soon as you receive your gallery.
What if I have trouble downloading my gallery?
Don't stress! ❤️
Start with the page and look at the visuals.

What should I do if my download fails or the ZIP file won't open?
If your download fails or the ZIP file won't open, the download may have been interrupted by a network connection issue.
Don't worry, this can usually be resolved by requesting a new download link.
For the best results:
- Use a stable Wi-Fi connection rather than cellular data.
- Download from a computer whenever possible.
- Make sure your computer has enough available storage for the entire gallery.
- Download one ZIP file at a time.
- Avoid streaming videos or downloading other files while your gallery is downloading.
- If you've already had a failed download, request a new download link rather than repeatedly trying the same failed ZIP file.
